You should have a good general standard of education including literacy and numeracy AND successfully complete a relevant qualification to allow registration with the SSSC as a Support Worker (Day Care of Children) within 3 years of taking up the post. For appointment at Grade E:

You should have a good general standard education including evidence of competency in literacy and numeracy, and have experience of working / volunteering with children. This post is subject to Level 2 Disclosure Check with PVG for working in a regulated role with children.

You will be part of a supportive team of social work staff based at the Council Offices in Kirkwall.

You should hold a degree or Post Graduate Qualification in Social Work that allows registration with the Scottish Social Service Council as a Social Worker.

You must also be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council as a Social Worker.

You should hold a qualification at SCQF 8/9 i.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

You will receive support and guidance from the Lifestyles Co-ordinators, Senior Lifestyles Co-ordinator or Registered Manager and be expected to adhere to the Health and Social Care Standards and the SSSC codes of practice for Social Service Workers.

You will hold an SVQ2 in Social Services and Health Care or equivalent in accordance with the SSSC qualification requirements for registration.
