You will play a key role in the development of the company’s novel lens system, contributing from early concept through to production. You will hold mechanical and electrical fault-finding experience and will hold a level 3 engineering qualification (or equivalent). The role itself will be predominantly working on the new robotic wall line that the company has recently invested heavily in. This varied position will entail both pre-planned and reactive maintenance as well as extensive project-based work for continuous improvement.

You will be qualified to HNC level or higher in an Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering discipline, however proven industry experience backed up by a recognised engineering apprenticeship will be considered.

You will also need to be able to demonstrate a track record of accomplishing your objectives, working proactively, and managing your own time effectively.

You will be supported by an excellent team and you get on the job training. During your shift, the Manufacturing Technician will carry out routine machine setting, machinery maintenance and running of the production lines and equipment to ensure production runs smoothly, their products meet quality standards, and the equipment is properly maintained.

You will be a key contributor, working closely with the Design and Production teams to develop critical equipment that supports the assembly of novel prototypes. As this is a completely new optical system, the role requires a high degree of creativity, with responsibility for developing first-of-their-kind assembly equipment and production processes.

You will need to be able to set and work with manufacturing KPI's, labour efficiency, waste reporting etc.

You will also have experience of managing operators, technicians, supervisors, highlighting training requirements, dealing with recruitment, appraisals and so on.

You will characterise, optimise, scale, and validate the R&D team’s unique ophthalmic production processes, ensuring they are robust, repeatable, and scalable. As this is a completely new optical system, the role requires a high degree of creativity, along with a proactive, hands-on engineering approach to developing novel and often complex production processes.
